Bojan Starčević does not even know if he is a member anymore SPS, although he says he will forever be a socialist, at least for himself. At the beginning of August 2026, he did not hold the position of councilor for the entire session of the local Assembly. As soon as he was elected councilor, he resigned, and the reason was the imposition of cooperation with progressives.
Today, similar to his fate as a local politician, he also experiences disappointment Branko Ruzic, who was expelled from the party. After that, two SPS members left the party in Kuršulmlija.
Kuršumlija: "We are withdrawing from the SPS due to the expulsion of Branko Ružić"
"I could have remained an independent councilman, but that is not socialist. According to the same logic, as I returned the councilman's mandate, Ružić said he would return the parliamentary mandate," Starčević told Vreme.
In a speech at the local assembly, he apologized for being an "accomplice" in securing the majority for making some decisions, and they, as he said, "served the Serbian Progressive Party according to the hierarchy."
SPS confirmed: We excluded Ružić, he said that the students should win
Now he says that most of the party members he knows "think like Branko Ružić", since the fall of the canopy.
"Especially the younger members of the party think that there is no political crisis in Serbia, but a social crisis, and it started with an accident in Novi Sad," says Starčević. "Whoever was in power had to listen to the students because at the beginning they fought only to investigate the canopy case. Whoever was in power could not and still cannot harass them, call them Ustashas and everything else. That way the integrity of the government is threatened."
Ružić will return the mandate because it is "socialist responsible"
He is not sure that he is still a member of the party since he regained his mandate. He says that it is possible that he was expelled, but that no one has contacted him since then, and it has already been a month. He said, he didn't even shake and "put himself ad act".
He adds that he will follow what Ružić is doing and that he hopes to return the socialists, in whatever form, to their old values.
Dacic is jumping on Vucic's political pyre
Another former SPS councilor in Knić, Goran Marić, who is now an independent member of the local Assembly, thinks similarly. He says for "Vreme" that Ružić acted just as he would.
"I fully support him, but I have reservations about his further actions. I am not sure that there is time for something important to change in the SPS before the elections. We will see," adds Marić.
