The vacation season has begun, and many fans of the Montenegrin coast still decide to travel by train on the Belgrade-Bar route.
From the railway station building from 1884 in Topčider, this train departs daily in the morning and evening.
Travelers love it because they have the option of traveling in a sleeping car, which makes the multi-hour journey easier.
The Belgrade-Bar railway arouses nostalgia in many passengers, and at the beginning of this year, CNN included it in "underrated European treasures".
An engineering marvel of the 20th century
"476 kilometers long, with as many as 254 tunnels and 234 bridges, the Belgrade-Bar railway was a 'miracle of engineering of the 20th century.' Initiated by the dictator Marshal Tito in the early 1950s, construction of the line was so difficult that trains could not run the full length until 1976," writes CNN.
With that, it entered the company of selected attractions, among which are railways in Norway, Scotland, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, France, Hungary, Wales and Italy.
As further stated, although tourists visiting Europe mostly ignore Serbia and Montenegro, the Belgrade-Bar train is becoming more and more popular among those using "Interrail" or "Eurail" passes.
Even without a pass, the eleven-hour journey costs just €21 one-way, and rail travel expert Mark Smith, better known as 'The Man in Seat 61', has named it his favourite.
He rated the trip on the Belgrade-Bar railway as "21 euros best spent", writes CNN.
The train between Belgrade and Bar will run until September 17 this season.
