The Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade appealed for compliance with the prescribed technical norms and rules of the construction profession, on the occasion of the tragedy that occurred at the Railway Station in Novi Sad.
As they stated in the announcement, compliance with the prescribed technical norms and rules ensures the independent work of civil engineers in all phases of design, construction, reconstruction and supervision, without external pressure, which, as they stated, is "a very common occurrence in practice."
"Aware of the negligence when it comes to the treatment of existing buildings, we point out the legally prescribed obligation of owners and investors to regularly carry out inspections and maintain structures in accordance with the applicable regulations." This is especially important to implement in buildings where a large number of people are expected to gather," said the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
They added that the faculty is available to help objectively determine the cause of the tragedy that happened in Novi Sad with its professional and scientific resources.
In Novi Sad, on Friday, November 1, the canopy of the railway station fell, killing 14 people and injuring three others.
