Use of the new entry-exit system of the European Union EES in Hungarian-Serbian border crossings begins today (Tuesday, October 28) at eight o'clock at the Tompa - Kelebija border crossing, announced the Consulate General of Hungary in Subotica. At the Reske-Horgoš crossing, the EES system will be introduced from November 4, and until November 11 at the remaining Hungarian and Serbian crossings.
Registration points have been set up at border crossings and police officers will direct vehicles to special traffic lanes for those who need to register.
The Consulate General of Hungary in Subotica explains that passengers with EU passports, ie Hungarian citizens, will travel as before, because there are no changes for them.
What does EES mean?
Only at the first entry into the country that applies the EES, the border control will include the taking of four fingerprints, a photo of the face and the entry of personal and travel data into the system, while minors under the age of 12 will not be fingerprinted, but will be photographed and passport data will be taken.
In addition to the 25 EU member states, the EES system will also be applied by Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
The EES system is free of charge, does not require any registration before traveling to the Schengen countries, and will be implemented gradually over the next six months.
