In July, the signatory of these lines quite by chance stayed with a group of regime journalists and videographers who "perpetuated" the great progressive-Vučić construction project - the renovation of the Railway Station in Novi Sad.
It was while preparing for the opening of the superfast railway that will connect Belgrade and Novi Sad with Subotica, and then, sometime in the future, with Budapest, with a view of Vladivostok.
Everyone was happy and proud. I heard a journalist from Belgrade explain to the editor on the phone that the station looks "like it's in Stockholm".
Problematic projects
It is not the first time that this station for the progressive watch has been renovated, something was "tinkered" around it a few years ago. Government projects are, as always, problematic, especially construction projects. And when it comes to price, and when it comes to contractors, and when it comes to the quality of construction. Everything is shrouded in secrecy, and highly corrupt, which logically follows from secrecy.
The fall of the railway station canopy with tragic consequences, of course it should not be misused politically. But at the same time, it would be irresponsible, for the sake of public interest, not to remind how life in a country ruled by corruption, where all institutions, including the most sensitive and important ones, are broken, obedient and "de-expertized" - life-threatening!
If a construction inspection had done its job, if the law and the rules of the profession had been followed, this kind of tragedy would certainly not have happened. A tragedy in which people were injured, some of them, according to the information available at the time of writing, lost their lives.
We are left to fear, every day more and more, what the great Potemkin villages that the Vučići people are building will look like with the passage of time. Experts say - God forbid a serious earthquake.
And if it happens, as it happened in Turkey, when crowds of people lost their lives due to corruption, lawlessness and greed of the builders, who will be to blame? Will the former, "unpopular" government be to blame again?
