Election day in North Mitrovica it started according to a well-planned scenario, because in 16 months the third will be held parliamentary elections, and including local ones - this is the fourth election cycle. The polling stations opened at seven in the morning, and dozens of citizens were already at the polling stations.
This was followed by a traditional gathering of sympathizers and members of the Serbian List in front of the headquarters of this party. One lady, in a conversation with the crowd, mentioned that she had already done her "civic duty".
Nevertheless, it was necessary to perform the duty established years ago - stand in line for collective voting and accompany the representatives of the Serbian List to the polling stations.
Journalists agree among themselves that there are fewer citizens in front of the headquarters of the Serbian List than in the previous elections.
Two parties are participating as representatives of Kosovo Serbs in these elections - Serbian List and For Freedom, Justice and Survival, whose leader is Nenad Rašić, Minister for Communities and Return in the technical Kosovo Government.
The turnout until 11 o'clock in North Mitrovica was 10,67 percent, while in Kosovo the total was 3,05 percent.
In the days before the elections, during conversations with locals - in bakeries, shops and cafes - the journalist mostly received the same answer: citizens either do not know that elections are taking place at all, or "they heard that some elections are taking place on June 7".
Such a mood among voters from the Serbian community gains more and more momentum from parliamentary election to parliamentary election.
How is election day going?
The parallel with other election cycles was underlined in the statements about the regularity of the election day.
Dušan Radaković, an election observer for "Democracy in action", told the media that the election day is going without any major problems, but that as usual in Zubin Potok and Leposavic, the election materials and some of the election board members are late.
He emphasized that, as in the previous parliamentary elections, a large number of Albanians are again present in the electoral committees.
"Even in classrooms where Serbs vote 100%, we may have one member from the Serbian community, either from the Serbian List or from Rašić's party. But mostly 90 to 95 percent are Albanians who mostly do not speak Serbian," Radaković pointed out.
This, as he states, is repeated in previous election cycles as well.
Repeat parliamentary elections
Extraordinary parliamentary elections in Kosovo are being held after the failure to elect the president of Kosovo.
After the extraordinary elections held on December 28, the Kosovo Assembly was constituted and the Government was elected, but the failure followed in the election of the President of Kosovo, who is elected by the Assembly, so extraordinary elections are being held again today.
They were held in December due to the failure in the election of the Government, which was preceded by a multi-month blockade of the Assembly. The first regular parliamentary elections in this series were held on February 9, 2025.
Therefore, due to these blockades, Kosovo has not had an established institution for 16 months.
