On the occasion of May 3 and 4, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims mass murders in Serbia, Victimology Society of Serbia (VDS) sent a message to the public and state institutions that such tragedies must never happen again.
It has been two years since the mass murder at the "Vladislav Ribnikar" Elementary School in Belgrade, when nine children and a school guard lost their lives, and six people were wounded. A day later, on May 4, 2023, in Mali Orašje and Dubona, nine young people were killed, while twelve people were seriously wounded.
VDS emphasizes that remembering the victims and supporting the families is a key part of the community's recovery process, but also the prevention of future tragedies.
"Mass murders must not become part of everyday life. This social trauma must encourage us to make systemic changes, recognize risky behaviors and strengthen support for victims," VDS said.
The Victimological Society of Serbia, through its "VDS info and support for victims" service, invites all citizens to report if they have been exposed to violence or if they know about potential risks. From its foundation until today, the Service has recorded more than 20.000 appeals from victims of various forms of crime and human rights violations.
