At the meeting of the Operational Team of the Republic Headquarters for Emergency Situations, convened at the suggestion of Prime Minister Đura Macut, it was said that the focus of activities are on suppressing the fire that hit Deliblatska Peščara and on normalizing the operation of the Bezdan and Bogojevo pumping stations, on the upper reaches Danube.
Fire in Deliblatska peščara it covered about 500 hectares. Due to the configuration of the terrain and weather conditions, extinguishing is difficult. Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Vojvodina are engaged in maximum capacity.
Activities are being undertaken to surround the fire and prevent its further spread. It was stated that for now there are no endangered buildings, and the police have prohibited movement in the affected part of Deliblatska peščara.
Water abstraction ban
As for the water level of the Danube, it was confirmed that there was a slight improvement in the situation at the Bogojevo Pumping Station, where the operation of one unit was again enabled, which, along with the ban on water extraction, contributed to enabling the injection of water into the southern part of the Danube-Tisa-Danube Hydrosystem.
At the Bezdan Pumping Station, activities are being undertaken on the interventional deepening of the channel.
Mazut announced that the Republic Headquarters for Emergency Situations will meet tomorrow as well and that additional measures will be taken to mitigate the consequences of unfavorable weather conditions.
According to Macuto, a strategic consideration is necessary as far as critical infrastructure is concerned, in terms of an adequate and preventive response to challenges.
