Assistant Minister and Head of the Department for Emergency Situations Ministry of the Interior Luka Čaušić said that a new one broke out in Deliblatska peščara around 2:00 p.m fire which, due to high temperatures and wind, very quickly spread to more than 300 hectares.
Čaušić stated that the fire broke out about a kilometer from the area where a large fire was successfully localized and extinguished on July 22, and pointed out that the Department for Emergency Situations immediately sent additional forces to the field.
More than 80 members of the Emergency Situations Sector, voluntary fire brigades and "Vojvodina Forest" are currently involved in extinguishing the fire, while three helicopters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kamov Ka32, H215 Super Puma and H145, have been deployed from the air. Citizens should not light fires in the open air
He again appealed to the citizens not to light fires in the open and to be extremely careful during their stay in nature, bearing in mind that Serbia is still facing extremely high temperatures and an increased risk of fire outbreaks.
"Today, in the territory of the village of Lučica near Požarevac, we had a tragic case in which one person died as a result of a fire that he himself caused. This is the most serious consequence of irresponsible behavior, and that is why I once again call on all citizens to exercise maximum caution," said Čaušić.
