The news that Goran Bare (61) died was confirmed by Mario Rašić and Alen Tibljaš for Večernji list. Band members found him lying lifeless in his apartment around 13 p.m. today, but they say Bare was no longer breathing. For the past five years, the two have been trying to persuade him to seek treatment and face his health problems. Without success.
Goran Bare already knew at the age of twelve that music was his calling, writes Večernji list. With his friend Marin Pokrovec, he founded "Duo debili", and at the end of 1984, the cult Mothers.
Their raw energy and uncompromising performances quickly brought them the status of a talked-about band, and cooperation with independent publisher Zdenko Franjić opened the door to the music scene for them, Croatian media reports.
The debut album "Razum i bezumlje" from 1990 was declared the rock album of the year by critics and everything was ready for a big breakthrough.
However, then fate played a cruel game. Guitarist Marin Pokrovac died in a serious accident, and the war scattered the original line-up. Bare moved to Zagreb and sank deeper and deeper into the hell of heroin, but he didn't give up on music. He gathered new Mothers and recorded the albums "Razdor" and "Milost".
In December 1995, his wife Mirjana died of an overdose, just a few months after he finished addiction treatment. He translated that life breakdown and unspeakable pain into the lyrics of the album "Vrijeme je da se krene", the most commercially successful release of Majki, which launched him among the biggest stars and introduced him to a wider audience.
After an eight-year hiatus, Majke reunited and released "Teške boje" in 2011, an album that brought them as many as six Porins and great popularity.

The musician was recently taken off the stage and could not continue the concert in Makarska. Drummer Majki and band manager Alen Tibljaš told 24 hours later that Goran is fine now.
"It's not what people usually think, everything is fine now," he said shortly.
The recording of the beginning of the concert was published at the time on the Pod Biokov page.
"Tonight at the 'Blue and Green' festival in Makarska, Goran Bare did not even manage to perform the first song. After going on stage, the performance was soon interrupted, with great support from the audience, who saw him off with applause," states the announcement, which is accompanied by a video in which team members help him get off the stage in Fra Jure Radić Park.
After that, an official statement was issued on the website of the band Goran Bare and Majka.
"Unfortunately, Goran was not well last night. He went on stage with the desire to perform for the audience that came to support him, but his body and voice did not allow him. We sincerely apologize to everyone who came to Makarska last night and thank you for the understanding, warmth and support they gave to Goran and the band. It means a lot to us. We also extend our apologies and thanks for your understanding to the organizers, the Tourist Board of the City of Makarska and the City of Makarska. Now the most important thing is that Goran is well. We have two months ahead of us a break that we will dedicate to rest and recovery, we will be back in December and hang out with music again. Thank you everyone," the post said.
