"Cyclops" is a book by Yugoslav and then Croatian writer Ranko Mariković that should be read when there is a real danger of fire. It was recently published by the Belgrade-based "Kontrast"
After twenty years, "Cyclops" by Ranko Marinković, a former Yugoslav and now Croatian writer, was published again in Serbia. It was published by "Kontrast" in the "Balkanon" library, one of the few Serbian publishers that publishes Croatian writers.
Those who know why this is so, do not need to be convinced, and those who do not know, now have the opportunity to find out if they want to. Let's just remind that "Cyclops" won the Nino Prize by unanimous decision of the jury, which included (it's worth remembering these names): Miloš I. Bandić, Velibor Gligorić, Borislav Mihajlović Mihiz, Muharem Pervić, Eli Finci and Petar Džadzić.
In the preface, explaining why "Cyclops" can be important to the modern reader, Vladan Bajčeta states that "it can help him to more clearly articulate his own thoughts and feelings regarding the general situation in which the world finds himself, it can encourage him to reconsider the ethical and philosophical assumptions with which he measures reality and his own experience, can provide him with refuge in a comic cheerfulness that does not disappear from the earth even in moments of general civilizational eclipse."
Finally, says Bajčeta, "it can give it a superb aesthetic experience, because it is, above all, a great novel that is always, as one author close to Marinković says, "written only when the house is on fire". That is why it can be said that such novels are read when there is a real danger of fire."

The play "Professional" is performed for the 50th time. "It is incredible that in forty years - since writing about the then government and communism, little has changed," says its author, Dušan Kovačević.
The world-famous "Aesthetics of Film", memoirs by Srećko Džamonja, books by Aleksandar Dimitrijević, award-winning novels and other new Clio publications that will not be at the Book Fair
The performance of "Balkan Spy" was canceled last night just before the meeting of the Student List at Slavija - due to the indisposition of the actors. "I am not indisposed," says the director of the play, Tatjana Mandić Rigonat
The members of the legendary German avant-garde rock group "Faust" recorded four exciting solo albums and released them on the same day. The exceptionality of this event is contained in the fact that the group has not existed for a long time, but all four founders, after a long break, worked together again, extending the duration of their visionary work deep into the XXI century.
There is, literally, no difference between the one who claims it is day in the middle of the night, or the one who claims to be a giraffe, from the claims we read on billboards: that Vučić is working to unify Serbs and that Serbia is doing better and better day by day.
The pre-election arrests due to the alleged "overthrow of the state" testify to the regime's panic. The bad news for them is - they can't arrest the whole people who decided to defend themselves from progressive beatings and election theft
The ring that tightens around Ćaciland Student list is getting narrower. Because there are more and more spoiled people who see the false prophet for what he is: a street obscener who is fighting Serbia
