The son of Arsen Dedić, the famous musician Matija Dedić, died today in Zagreb at the age of 53.
He was one of the most famous Croatian jazz musicians. He comes from a musical family (son of Arsen Dedić and Gabi Novak), and in 1997 he graduated from the Academy of Arts in Graz, reports Jutarnji list.
He has been a member of the Boilers Quartet since 1994, and in the late 1990s he formed his own band.
He collaborated with famous jazz musicians (Boško Petrović, Darko Jurković, Tamara Obrovac, Ladislav Fidri, Buster Williams, Jeff Ballard, Lenny White, Larry Grenadier, Antonio Sanchez, Scott Colley, Kendrick Scott, Vicente Archer, Mark Murphy, Ignacio Berroa, etc.) and with the most famous Croatian musicians of other genres.
He performed in many European countries, in Brazil and the USA. In 2002, he was a finalist in the competition of young jazz pianists at the jazz festival in Montreux.
He is the winner of the award of the Croatian Society of Composers for the best jazz composer and multiple winner of the Status and Porin awards for the best jazz albums, compositions and instrumental performances.
