At least one type of fuel is cheaper in almost half of the countries of the European Union - than in the country of Serbia.
Gasoline is even cheaper in Sweden than at pumps in Serbia. Thus, Swedes pay 1,51 euros for a liter of this energy source, and Serbs 1,57 euros. This is shown by the official data of the State of Serbia, but also of the European Commission for March 12, 2026. With the fact that this difference will probably increase even more on Friday, March 13.
A liter of gasoline is even more affordable, and considerably more so, in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, as well as in Cyprus and Malta. We are "slaughtering" in prices with Estonia, Lithuania and Luxembourg.
The differences are even greater when you look the price of diesel, which is astonishingly expensive in Serbia, and has long been at the very top in the region, and now also in the European Union. Sweden has only slightly more expensive diesel, and Spaniards, Slovenians, Slovaks, Czechs, Bulgarians, Croats, Maltese and Cypriots drive on this fuel significantly cheaper. We are there somewhere with prices with Latvians, Poles and Romanians, and even Irish and residents of Luxembourg.

The EU gives average prices, Serbia publishes a directive from above
The European Commission publishes an oil bulletin every Thursday, in order to improve the transparency of oil prices and strengthen the internal market, in which it shows the weekly consumer prices at pumps in EU countries, including all excise taxes and other taxes.
Serbia, on the other hand, also publishes the price of fuel once a week, on Fridays. But it is not a price formed in the free market, but the one conducted by the state. While the EU actually informs consumers what the average price was in the past week, Serbia publishes the directive for the following week.
How Oil prices are skyrocketing. due to the crisis in the Middle East, it is expected that the new price in Serbia, which is commented personally by Aleksandar Vučić, will be announced to the people on Friday, March 13. After that broke the $100 barrel of crude oil, its value fell by ten percent on the international market, since Donald Trump announced that the war in Iran will not last much longer. Currently, oil is held at around 90 dollars.
