The company of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, plans to sell the location where it is located the General Staff building in Belgrade was destroyed in the NATO bombing, turned into a luxury hotel with business space and more than 1.500 apartments, he writes Blumberg, and transfers Voice of America.
This information has arrived three days after the leader of the opposition Ecological Uprising in Serbia, Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta, went public with the document, which he claims is a memorandum of understanding signed between two American companies and the Government of Serbia - represented by the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Construction, Goran Vesić. That document mentions two American firms, Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC and Kushner Realty LLC, which would receive a location in the center of Belgrade for free use for 99 years, with the possibility of converting the right of use into ownership.
Vesić denied that a memorandum of understanding had been signed and said that he would "notify the public when it happens".
However, it is not clear in what way the companies mentioned in the memorandum are connected to Kushner, and to which member of that family.
Namely, Jovanovic said that Kushner Realty LLC is connected to Jonathan Kushner, a relative of Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, whose Kushner Real Estate Group (KRE) deals in real estate. This large company is based in New Jersey and has been in existence since 1979. According to the available data, Kushner Realty LLC is registered in the state of Maryland and was established in March 2022. Voice of America did not receive confirmation from Jonathan Kushner's company that the company from Maryland is part of the large KRE group and that it will invest in Belgrade.
Voice of America asked the same question to the New York-based Kushner Company, which is owned by Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, but the answer has not yet arrived.
Another firm mentioned in the document, Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC, is registered in Delaware, a state known for offshore companies. That company was founded in April 2023.
Investments in Albania as well
According to Bloomberg, Affinity Partners, owned by Jared Kushner, is negotiating three real estate investments in the Balkans that could be worth more than a billion dollars.
Apart from the location in Belgrade, locations in Albania are also being discussed. Bloomberg writes that Miami-based Affinity Partners plans to turn the Albanian Mediterranean island of Sazan, which was once a military base, into a luxury resort under the Aman brand.
The paper states that Affinity also wants to invest in the development of Albania's Zvernec peninsula, which has about five kilometers of large white sandy beaches. It added that the company is planning several large resorts that would have nearly 10.000 villas and hotel rooms.
"Sazan Island is one of the most pristine and interesting places I've ever seen anywhere in the world," Kushner told Bloomberg.
Bloomberg reports that Kushner was scouting locations with his friends - former US ambassador to Germany and White House envoy for Serbia-Kosovo dialogue Richard Grenell, and Asher Abehser, and he was attracted to one of the world's fastest growing tourist areas.
Richard Grenell often stayed in the Western Balkans even after he stepped down from his position in the White House. He was also in Albania several times, which can be seen from his profiles on social networks.
Kushner, Bloomberg reminds, is the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump and was a senior advisor to the White House. After leaving his government job, he founded Affinity, which is valued at $3,1 billion.
The firm was backed by Middle Eastern investors close to the government, with another $2 billion from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. The paper states that the company is considering investment opportunities in renewable energy sources, data centers and artificial intelligence.
It added that Kushner played a key role in the Abraham Accords that normalized relations between Israel and some Arab countries in 2020. He has indicated that he will not rejoin the Trump administration if the presumptive Republican nominee wins the presidential election in November.
