The program of the "Days of Serbian Culture" manifestation in Split it was interrupted after about 50 young men dressed in black burst into the premises of the cultural center and shouted Ustasha greetings. Splitska police announced that there was no physical violence, and that a group of young men disturbed public order and peace by shouting.
Last night, the "Days of Serbian Culture" event was supposed to take place in the premises of the city district of Blatina in Split. The program was interrupted after a group of about 50 young men dressed in black broke into the premises where the program was being held, Index reports.
As Index unofficially learns, they are members of the "Torcida" fan group.
As part of the event, several musicians and members of the dance-singing ensemble from Novi Sad were supposed to perform. The Split police announced that part of that ensemble did not feel safe, which is why they ran away from the scene, but that they provided them with protection when they were found.
"Subsequently, we learned that part of the gathered group of young people entered the area of the City District of Blatina where the event was to be held and asked the visitors to disperse, which they did. During the departure, people from the group disturbed public order and peace on several occasions by shouting. There was no physical violence and no injured persons. We are conducting an intensive investigation in order to identify the culprits," the police statement said.
The Dalmatian portal reports that around 6:00 p.m., men in black T-shirts and caps broke into the premises of the district, among which two older men seemed to be leading the group.
They told the members of the Serbian cultural society "Prosvjeta" that "they cannot hold a performance" and that "there is no place for such a program in the month when the fall of Vukovar is commemorated." The portal reports that they also chanted the Ustasha salute "Ready for home".
"Prosvjeta" confirmed that they informed the police about everything, and the Split-Dalmatia Police Department confirmed that the report was received and that information on the circumstances of the event is being collected, the Dalmatian portal reports.
The "Days of Serbian Culture" are planned to be held from November 3 to December 1, and the event includes musical and dramatic performances, exhibitions, folklore performances and a presentation of traditional Serbian cuisine.
