Five mountaineers from Bosnia and Herzegovina died on Mount Elbrus in Russia, Klix writing of the Russian portal Lenta.ru reported today.
Citing information from the Russian Telegram channel Shot, Russian media reports that only two members of the mountaineering group survived.
One man managed to get down from the mountain on his own and call for help, while the other was found by members of the rescue teams.
There were seven of them.
Both survivors were hospitalized.
The news that a group of tourists was trapped on Elbrus and could not get off the mountain appeared on July 25.
According to the local guides, the weather conditions for the ascent were relatively favorable at first, but the weather suddenly deteriorated, the wind speed reached 45 kilometers per hour, and by morning it strengthened to a devastating 70 kilometers per hour.
The Directorate of the Investigative Committee (SK) of Russia for Kabardino-Balkaria previously announced details of the beginning of this drama and confirmed that an investigation had been launched.
According to the press service, on July 25, a group of seven people set out to conquer Elbrus, after which one of them managed to get down and told two members of the group that they got sick at an altitude of 5.100 meters.
The search is ongoing.
"According to the available information, they have passed away. The search for four more alpinists is underway," the Russian Investigative Committee announced at the time.
Subsequent information transmitted by the media confirmed the dark forebodings, the number of victims was five, and only one more person was rescued from those who were being searched for.+
Elbrus is the highest mountain peak in Europe and Russia, with an altitude of 5.642 meters. It is located in the western part of the Caucasus mountain range, in southern Russia, not far from the border with Georgia.
