It should have already been built, or even if the works are already taking a long time, as has been announced for years, but metro in Belgrade apart from the project, loans, announcements and postponement of deadlines, he did not get very far.
That the deadlines and ambitions from the pre-primary campaign of 2018 have been achieved, sub Belgrade he was supposed to ride the subway for several years. Tickets were also distributed, but their validity period had long since expired.
Now, however, new announcements are coming - moles are coming in the spring.
City manager Miroslav Cuckovic he told Newsmax Balkans that the construction of the Belgrade metro enters a visible phase already this spring, when the arrival of two tunnel-digging machines, the so-called moles, is expected.
"The machines were ordered last year and are heading to Belgrade this spring. The goal is to have them installed and to start digging tunnels to the metro stations," Čučković said.
As he stated, the preparatory works, including the expropriation and relocation of installations, have largely been completed.
"Several billion dinars have been paid out to the owners of buildings on the route, studies have been done for each station and now we are reaching the stage when the sound of the machines will be heard", stated Čučković.
New deadlines
And the sound of machines during this year was announced by the Minister of Finance at the beginning of January Sinish Mali.
As he said, the first line of the Belgrade metro will be completed in 2030, and "major construction works" are expected during this year. metro station.
At that time, he also announced that the machines would arrive, with the fact that the deadline was slightly longer than the one that Čučković is now stating.
Mali announced that the first "Tunnel Boring Machine" drilling machines (so-called "moles") will arrive in Serbia during the second half of 2026 and said that a contract for the design and construction of the first metro line has already been signed with the French company "Alstom", which deals with electromechanical works and the production of compositions for the metro.
"The contract is worth as much as one billion euros, and in my opinion it was the last contract, the last legal thing we should do," he said.
Mali said that the project for the second metro line has also been completed and he expects that its construction will start in 2027 or 2028 at the latest.

"We are late, but not through our fault"
Since 2014, Siniša Mali has repeatedly announced the dates of the start and end of works on the Belgrade subway, however, each of those deadlines was missed.
Goran Vesić and Aleksandar Šapić made similar, never-received promises, depending on who was the "first" man of the city at a given moment, as well as Aleksandar Vučić as former prime minister and current president.
Mali says that the Belgrade metro construction project is delayed, because a lot of geomechanical and geological research was needed.
"We are late, but it is not our fault. The project is simply late, because when you do such a responsible and big thing, you need to do all possible geomechanical and geological research and so on. Since the first line is 21 kilometers long, if I am not mistaken, and the second is 25 kilometers long, it took much more time," he said at the beginning of 2026.
