On the occasion of leaving Željko Obradović iz Partizan and semantics became politics.
Namely, did the trophy coach submit his "irrevocable resignation" or is it not really irrevocable, but the president of the club added that adjective?
According to the coach, Ostoja Mijailović he did ask for it to be added to help sell his resignation to fans. It turned out to be a fiasco anyway.
What is resignation?
Resignation is resignation from office. In contrast to dismissal or dismissal, the essence of resignation is in a personal act or request.
She should be moral the act of the resigner or practical - he does not see how to perform the function anymore. Or deeply personal, for private, health, emotional reasons.
There are "offered" resignations that are not actually resignations but a tactical invitation to negotiate.
There are also forced resignations, of course. Let's say Aleksandar Ranković in 1966, he resigned from his position in the League of Communists.
There are also tactical resignations, political resignations. Let's say, when Milos Vucevic withdraw from the head of the Government and the Government falls.
Where did we get the word?
The root of the word is Proto-Slavic and Old-Slavic, it takes us through the word stav (pose, opinion, posture) to static, which, paradoxically, can also mean to stop a movement or some other action, and it can also mean to start.
"O" comes to him as a negation - leave is the opposite of tan. As in the word (o)call. There is the same old Slavic name at the root.
Irrevocable is undeniable, irreversible, final.
Slobodan Jovanović wrote in Constitutional Law (1924) that the resignation "must be respected", that it is definitive and gives effect immediately.
If it is not irrevocable, it is not a resignation either
Therefore, there is no gradation - an irrevocable resignation is not stronger than an "ordinary" resignation, but the fact that it is irrevocable is woven into the concept of resignation.
"Irrevocable resignation" may, of course, be hyperbole, to emphasize the determination. But, in essence, it is a pleonasm, like "completely dead", "factory new", "completely determined".
This does nothing to clarify the situation in Partizan, where the fans would like the resignation not to be a resignation after all and to be revoked irrevocably.
