Mayor Zrenjanina Simo Salapura announced that he had received the letter resignation to the post of mayor's assistant Vera Milošev.
"Although the proceedings before the competent authorities have not yet been initiated, Vera made this decision in order not to create a problem in the functioning of the local self-government, to show responsibility, to allow the competent authorities to present the full truth and thus prove that not everything is as reported by the media ", he wrote in a post on Facebook.
Salapura pointed out that public attention is welcome when children's rights need to be protected and that there is no tolerance.
"Now it is necessary to give Vera Milošev the opportunity to impartially establish all the facts of this unfortunate event without media pressure," he pointed out.
He also stated that the local self-government will no longer advertise regarding that case in the coming days.
As a reminder, the media reported that Milosev and her friend verbally attacked and threatened three boys in the cinema on Sunday evening in Zrenjanin, and that they told the youngest of them, a boy with developmental problems, that he "can't come there anymore" and that there "they don't want to see him".
The commissioner for the protection of equality called on the child's parents to file a complaint, and the opposition representatives in that city called on the mayor's assistant to resign.
The Protector of Citizens, Zoran Pašalić, confirmed that he initiated the procedure to determine all the circumstances that led to this event.
