In Serbia, there are no legal provisions that expressly prohibit driving in slippers, flip flops, heels or barefoot. However, if there is a traffic accident, wearing flip-flops is certainly an aggravating circumstance that can be sanctioned in that case.
However, driving in flip flops or slippers is prohibited in some European countries.
Due to their shape, flip-flops are a danger when driving because they can easily get under the gas, brake and clutch pedals, which often leads to accidents.
Research has shown that driving in flip flops was the cause of 1,4 million accidents or dangerous situations in the UK alone. In France, if you are caught with flip-flops behind the wheel, you will pay a fine of 90 euros. In Spain, the fine is 200 euros.
And yet, regardless of the result of the British research, in most European countries drivers are allowed to drive in flip flops.
Experts do not recommend driving without shoes, because with bare feet you need to apply more force in order to stiffen.
