Representatives of the ProGlas initiative and representatives of the "Serbia against violence" coalition and members of the NADA coalition (New DSS and POKS) signed a document entitled "Agreement on Conditions for Fair, Free and Fair Elections" which calls for improvement of electoral conditions before the upcoming elections.
"Today, March 9, 2024, we present to the Serbian public an agreement for free and fair elections. The signing of this agreement is just the beginning of creating a broad front that should enable the minimum that has been denied to us, which is fair and free elections, as a prerequisite for a free and democratic Serbia", said one of the initiators of ProGlas, director Dragan Bjelogrliฤ.
The member of Proglas, actress Svetlana Bojkoviฤ, read a part of the document in which the request for the implementation of ODIHR's recommendations is stated, and the request for revision of the existing voter list is highlighted as particularly important.
In the signed Agreement, the public service is required to report to citizens in a timely and truthful manner about the course of the election process, but also to ensure that all those who participate in the elections are equally represented on the public service.
"We warn that the repeated elections scheduled in the short term will be neither free nor fair, and that we will not agree to them," it is stated.
Finally, the request for legal and political responsibility for election irregularities is stated, and all political organizations that agree with the points are invited to join the agreement.
Tepiฤ: An opportunity to make Belgrade a free territory
The agreement for free, fair, democratic and fair elections is a unique opportunity to first make Belgrade a free territory, and then all other cities in Serbia, said Marinika Tepiฤ in front of the Serbia Coalition against Violence after the signing.
She added that ProGlas encouraged citizens in the past period and informed people how to stand up in Serbia where, as she stated, there are so many humiliated, blackmailed and intimidated people.
"Aleksandar Vuฤiฤ rules with fear. His main tool is the media scene, which he has almost completely enslaved, and his main mechanism is the control of fear. "We are witnessing, despite the detection and documentation of phantom voters, the last case from two days ago of the citizens of Mala Krsna where they are abusing their plight and threatened social status to make them new voters in Belgrade," she said.
The document is also open to other parties and groups of citizens
Let's remind ProGlas announced that this document will be offered to parties and citizen groups for signature.
"The call to fight together and fight for honest, free and fair elections, with the assumption of democratic mechanisms and procedures, has no party sign, represents a civilizational norm and is for the benefit of the entire society," the statement said.
ProGlas reminds that the elections for the city government of Belgrade should be repeated pending the declaration of the Constitutional Court on the regularity of the elections on December 17 last year.
"The accession to this Agreement on March 9 is in the shadow of remembering a long, more tragic March 9 (in 1991), when two young lives were lost in the maelstrom of political divisions, intolerance and hatred," they stated in the announcement.
The ProGlas initiative is made up of independent public figures who do not belong to any party, and they gathered before the December elections to express their rebellion and concern about the electoral conditions and the governance of the Aleksandar Vuฤiฤ regime.
Hundreds of thousands of citizens stood behind ProGlas with their signatures, and the most massive gatherings and protests took place precisely in the organization of this initiative.
