The words "blockade", "blockades” and variations on the theme have become ingrained in the Serbian vocabulary in the last year and a half, a Bureau of Social Research (BIRODI) announced that the use of these terms has the features of coordination media labeling campaigns.
According to BIRODI's statistical analysis, in the period from January 1 to May 23, 2026, the largest number of mentions was registered on portals - 68.912, then in the cable space - 10.991, in morning and political shows - 3.820, in TV dailies - 2.689, in the Parliament - 476, while in the addresses of President Aleksandar Vučić 289 mentions.
The highest concentration of mentions occurred on March 29, 2026, when the numbers on portals, in the cable space and TV dailies jumped at the same time. The biggest bearers of the use of this expression were the portals Informer, Kurir, Novosti and Alo, while Informer dominated in the cable space, and Pink in the TV dailies.
The bureau assesses that the term "blockade" is used for political labeling, because it reduces the actors of the protest to a negatively labeled group, narrows the space for public discussion and contributes to the polarization of society.
