Actress Jelena Stupljanin has been on everyone for years protest and more than that - she became a kind of ambassador of rebellion and of all those trying to explain what life looks like in a country where violence is no longer an exception.
In an interview for the new "Vreme" (on newsstands from Thursday, August 20), Stupljanin talks about the atmosphere of fear after the attack on Vladimir Arsenijević and Stevan Filipović, about why he believes that divisions over national and ideological issues have been suppressed before a more important dilemma, but also why he does not lose faith that the citizens will win.
Hitchcock in Wonderland
In a conversation with Jovana Gligorijević, Stupljanin says that the years of alternating apathy and struggle began with the abolition of institutions. The ruling party hijacked them or made them informal.
"They created their own reality: they are under tents, they are having fun, and Serbia is burning. Or, for example, the tower in Belgrade on the water, at least once a week some absurd anniversary or celebration is celebrated on it. Alfred Hitchcock's birthday was celebrated the other day," she says.
"It's kind of an Alice in Wonderland kind of world, where there's some, in this case, evil king, who has his own equally evil army. I often feel like that, wondering where I am, where I live, what this is and where this is going. And it could literally go anywhere."
