Serbia was chosen as the host of the EXPO 2027 international exhibition, winning all four rounds of voting at the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Exhibitions in Paris.
Serbia was one of the five candidates, in addition to the USA, Thailand, Spain and Argentina, and the only candidate from Southeast Europe.
EXPO is a prestigious exhibition held every five years.
EXPO 27 will be held in Belgrade from May 15 to August 15, with the theme "Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All".
The basic idea of these exhibitions is that all countries get the opportunity to show the rest of the world their view on a given topic. Participating countries, in accordance with the given theme, organize their exhibition spaces at their own discretion in separate pavilions.
For that occasion, as the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced earlier today, "as soon as tomorrow, major works will begin not far from the national stadium" in Surčin. writes H1
The previous Expo 2020 in Dubai hosted 25 million visitors from all over the world, which is a figure that tells how many hotels will be needed to be built in Belgrade and its surroundings.
Vučić announced that it is estimated that around 2,6 million tourists will visit EXPO 2027.
"The total economic effect will be around 1,1 billion euros." Hotel industry, catering - literally everything will flourish. Belgrade Airport, our national airline, literally everything," said Vučić.
He said that it is necessary to build a fair space and accommodation facilities for the upcoming EXPO 2027, which after the exhibition will be able to be repurposed for those who have not resolved their housing issue.
In the complex of the National Stadium in Surčin, the plan is to build a whole series of fair halls, pavilions, accommodation and commercial facilities. The area of the plan includes 167 hectares, of which 113 hectares of land is intended for the fair.
The EXPO 2027 complex is planned as a multi-functional space that, in addition to equipped spaces for the basic purpose of the exhibition space, also contains accompanying commercial and accommodation facilities that should provide logistical support so that the space in question could grow into a significant economic and tourist center for the city of Belgrade and the Republic Serbia.
