Bogoljub Karic returns to the big one the political scene of Serbia after more than two decades, and he decided to spice up his return with a number that, if it comes true, would represent one of the biggest electoral surprises in the recent political history of the country.
The leader of the Movement of the Forces of Serbia list said that he expects 39 percent of the votes in the extraordinary parliamentary elections on October 25. In addition, he announced that after the elections, representatives of the student movement and the Serbian Progressive Party will come to him for talks.
"I am convinced that students and SNS will come to talk with us. We reconcile people, businessmen build bridges, and politicians build walls," Karić told Insider.
If Karić's calculation is correct, his return will not be just a political "comeback", but a kind of return with a new price list of expectations. 22 years ago, he was satisfied with 18,23 percent of the vote - now, it seems, he reckons it's time for a double.
In the 2004 presidential elections, Karić won 568.691 votes, or 18,23 percent, and finished in third place, behind Tomislav Nikolić and Boris Tadić.
This time, he is not running for president, but is leading the list of the Serbian Forces Movement in the parliamentary elections. The Republican Electoral Commission announced his list on September 26.
Return after the political break
Karić is returning to the political scene after several years of absence. His return was announced in the spring, and in May PSS decided to go to the elections independently.
Then the party announced that they were entering the election process with the idea of "reconciliation", economic development and overcoming divisions.
Karić is now presenting his political offer as an attempt to unite the two sides of the current political conflict.
"We want to reconcile one and the other, to see whose program is the best. All of them are not even up to our knees with their programs. The programs they propose are very thin," said Karić.
