Donald Trump has said that US forces have carried out "numerous perfect strikes" on Islamic State camps in northwestern Nigeria. This was preceded by several weeks of accusations that the country's government was not doing enough to protect Christians from the violence of extremists
American president Donald tramp stated that the United States had launched "powerful and deadly" attacks against the terrorist organization's forces Islamic State in Nigeria, after previously accusing the West African country's government for weeks of failing to curb the persecution of Christians.
Donald Trump also said that "numerous perfect strikes" were carried out.
"Tonight, on my order as commander in chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against the terrorist scum of the Islamic State in northwestern Nigeria, who are persecuting and brutally killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen in years, if not centuries," Trump said on the Truth social platform.
He added that he "earlier warned these terrorists that if they don't stop the slaughter of Christians, hell will break out," stating that "it happened tonight."
The U.S. Africa Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in Africa, said its "initial assessment is that more Islamic State terrorists have been killed in their camps" in Nigeria, CBS reports.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett said on Platform X that the US president "was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end". He added that the Islamic State found out "tonight - on Christmas."
"More information will be released ... I am grateful to the Nigerian government for its support and cooperation," Hegseth said.
Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the attacks in a statement and indicated that it had received advance notice, stating that "Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, to address the ongoing threat of terrorist and violent extremism."
"This led to the precise hitting of terrorist targets in Nigeria by airstrikes in the northwest. Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims or other communities, remains an affront to Nigerian values and to international peace and security," Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
In early November, Trump said he had ordered the Pentagon to "prepare for possible action" in Nigeria, saying the Nigerian government was not doing enough to combat the persecution of Christians in the country.
