The richest man in the world responded with a threat to the news that Democrats are preparing investigations against him if they win the congressional elections. Musk said that whoever initiates a conflict with him should know that "they will find out who is actually pulling the strings."

On October 21, Musk reacted to the "Politika" article on IX entitled "Capitol agenda: Dem gavels are coming for Elon Musk" with the words: "Live by the sword die by the sword", which in Serbian would be "Who lives by the sword dies by the sword". He added that those who start a conflict with him "should know that I will find out who is actually pulling the strings and that I will go after them and not just their puppets".
According to Politico, Democrats are compiling a list of possible investigations if they take control of Congress. Influential Democrat Zoe Lofgren said that "the number of conflicts of interest he has is truly staggering."
MP Maxine Dexter cited the contracts that the government gives to Musk's companies and said that the rich are using government contracts to subsidize their own research and profits. Democrats also want to examine his tenure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and allege that he ordered a slowdown in military access to Starlink in Ukraine.
Committees with investigative powers could compel individuals to testify and probe Musk's access to sensitive government data including Social Security records.
Musk helped finance Donald Trump's return to power in 2024 and then led a controversial government spending cut project that led to the departure of nearly 300.000 government employees. His companies SpaceX and Tesla receive government contracts, and Democrats have previously called for investigations into possible conflicts of interest.
Musk remains an important financier of Republican candidates. Congressional elections are on November 3rd, and Republicans currently hold the majority in both houses.

For U.S. voters, the investigations that could follow the Nov. 3 midterm elections are part of the reason the campaign for Congress has turned sour.
Allegations about the conflict of interest and the slowdown of Starlink have so far only come from Democrats, and Musk has not commented on them.
