United States President Donald Trump has announced that he will shorten the deadline he gave Russia for progress in ending the war in Ukraine

Trump, who is holding meetings in Scotland, said he would shorten the 50-day deadline he set because of frustration with the Russian president Vladimir Putin.
"I'm going to set a new deadline of about ... 10 or 12 days from today," Trump told reporters during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and hinted that he would make an official announcement tonight or tomorrow.
"There's no reason to wait... We just don't see any progress," the US president said.
Trump has indicated that if no truce agreement is reached, he could impose sanctions or secondary tariffs.
"I don't want to do that to Russia, I love the Russian people," Trump added.
The war in Ukraine began in February 2022.
