Chancellor Olaf Scholz's coalition fell apart. The German media reports that the coalition leaders failed to bridge the differences regarding budgetary, financial and economic policy
"Scholz fired Lindner," reports the German "Spiegel" as breaking news. This means the end of the so-called "traffic light coalition", red, yellow and green, Social Democrats, Liberals and Greens.
The head of the Liberal Party and the Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner, requested the calling of special elections in early 2025, which the other members of the coalition did not agree to, the "Bild" tabloid wrote earlier.

And the deputy editor-in-chief of the conservative "Welt" Robin Alexander wrote on the X network that Scholz fired Lindner.
The leaders of the coalition partners met on Wednesday evening to try to resolve their differences, but they were unable to do so. They failed to bridge disagreements over budgetary, financial and economic policy.
In the past few days, Scholz, Lindner and the Green Economy Minister Robert Habeck have met several times in order to find a compromise to preserve the coalition. To no avail.
Lindner insisted on an "economic turning point", which was unacceptable to the others. When it was clear that an agreement would not be reached, he asked for early elections to be called. He got fired instead.
