The remains of downed Ukrainian drones caused a fire in the refinery in Slavyansk, Kuban, regional leader Veniamin Kondratiev announced. It was also announced that one person was killed in Slavjanska, and one person was injured in a nearby village.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kiev carried out the attack, as well as that another Russian refinery in the Yaroslavl region, about 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, was hit during the night.
"Tonight, our 'long-range sanctions' reached two oil refineries in Russia. Each (strike) means reducing the resources that power the Russian war machine and another step towards peace," Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
The Slavyansk refinery is one of the largest in southern Russia and processes close to four million tons of crude oil annually, according to data from its operator's website.
There were no immediate reports from Russian authorities about the Ukrainian attack on the refinery in the Yaroslavl region.
