At least seven people died when they Russian forces attacked early on the morning of May 25 Kiev and other cities, officials said.
Moscow and Kiev exchanged attacks as Russia said it faced a barrage of Ukrainian drones and intercepted or destroyed about 100 Ukrainian unmanned weapons, including some aimed at Moscow.
Drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine have intensified over the past week.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian air defense units intercepted or destroyed 95 Ukrainian drones in four hours. These include two near Moscow, but most were located in the central and southern regions of Russia.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin later said the number of drones destroyed or intercepted near Moscow had risen to 11. The drone attack caused the closure of three Moscow airports.
Regional officials reported that air defense units shot down drones in the city of Tula and the city of Tver northwest of Moscow.
Fragments of a Russian drone damaged a residential building in Kyiv
Fragments of a Russian drone caused a fire and damaged an apartment building in Kyiv early on the morning of May 25.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, said the incident took place in Holosiyevsky district, not far from the city center.
"The building was partially destroyed and a fire broke out. Rescue teams are on the scene," Tkachenko said.
He said earlier that there were 10 drones over the city and more are coming.
Massive attacks a few hours after the prisoner exchange
On the evening of May 23, Russia launched dozens of drones and ballistic missiles at Kiev in one of the largest combined airstrikes the war has seen.
The May 25 attacks came just hours after Russia and Ukraine exchanged 307 more prisoners of war each as part of an agreed exchange that is expected to result in the return of 1.000 people from both warring parties to their home country.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed on May 24 the second exchange of prisoners.
"Among those who returned today are soldiers of our army, the State Border Service and the National Guard of Ukraine," Zelensky said on his official Telegram channel.
