In the last issue of "Vremena" in the article "Crown witness under amnesia", several mistakes sneaked up on you, which, however minor they may be, ultimately give a distorted picture of the events before the Hague Tribunal in the case of Haradinaj and others. In order:
"... Ramush Haradinaj is being tried again because the original verdict was overturned due to witness intimidation."
The first-instance verdict was not overturned due to witness intimidation, but due to the assessment of the Appeals Chamber that the trial was interrupted before two reluctant witnesses (Şefćet Kabashi and another whose identity is protected) were heard. It is true that the appeals panel confirmed the allegation of the first-instance verdict that the trial took place in an "unprecedented atmosphere of widespread and very serious intimidation of witnesses", but this was not cited as a basis for repeating the proceedings.
"The first headquarters was located in the family house of Haradinaj in Glođani, then it was moved to Jablanica, where KLA activities were directed by Ramush Haradinaj and his uncle Lehi Brahimaj."
Even the prosecutor does not claim that, although it would mean a lot to him if the mentioned allegation is true. Throughout 1998, Haradinaj's headquarters was in Glođan, and Brahimayev's in Jablanica. On June 23, 1998, at a meeting in Jablanica, Haradinaj was declared commander of the Dukađin operational zone (which also included Jablanica). However, he never moved his command to Jablanica, which the defense uses to prove the thesis that Haradinaj never controlled that area in practice, but that, allegedly, the two headquarters acted completely independently of each other, despite the earlier appointment of Haradinaj to the position of commander zones. It is true, of course, that the Main Staff of the KLA was once located in Jablanica, but Ramuš was never a member of it. Lahi Brahimaj is.
"The prosecution intends to prove the torture and murder of three young men..."
It is more correct to say that he intends to prove "among other things" the torture of three young men, since the six counts of the new indictment list much more than the three names of persons who were beaten and/or killed in Jablanica prison.
"He (Kabashi) (...) was at large in the USA of which he is a citizen."
He is not a citizen, but is awaiting a decision on his asylum application.
"… he is now suddenly arrested in the Netherlands."
I don't know if it can be said that he was "suddenly" arrested, since the man came from the USA to the Netherlands on the advice of his defense attorney, Michael Carnavas, aware of the fact that he would be arrested. He may have decided to take such a step rashly, but he was not arrested rashly.
As far as the second part is concerned, it seems to me that the thesis about the bias of the international community is placed lightly if it is taken into account that the event in Racak was not the first crime (or at least in the eyes of observers, it was) by the Serbian security forces until then. On the other hand, the discovery of corpses in Radonjić Lake was only an indication of the involvement of the KLA in the crimes at that moment. However, this can or cannot be debated, because everyone has the right to interpret the events as they think they should or as it sounds better to the majority of readers.
