It seems I was mistaken when I was before the premiere of the film Mi agency angels 3 predicted that the type will be paroled Rock and roll retorts blow cause an avalanche of tribunes/round tables, shows, stupid questions... is that what rock and roll is really coming back to us (in vogue), etc. Fortunately, we now have an enterprise that can really handle such a not very necessary load. Us in the best age title Tomorrow will to change sve? naturally evokes the old hit of Indeks, the somewhat younger ones may remember how Bora Đorđević turned that phrase into mockery (optimism - in Do not luck, do not today), and for those who are probably not even aware that they are in their best years - a questionnaire is useful.
And, under that title, we received a 65-minute long album with 17 tracks by 16 little-known artists, most of them from seven cities across Serbia: a little less than half are from the capital, three are from Pancevo, two from Subotica, one from Bečej, Bora, Vranje and Požega. As far as de-metropolization is concerned, then, Vojvodina is leading the way again; maybe fifteen years ago coins The good ones bands Vojvodina (pendant on Fast bands Of Serbia) and it was not completely strained. But when we have already mentioned these two mainly concert actions from the beginning of the last decade, which, unfortunately, were left without their sound business cards in the form of music releases with various performers/participants, let's remember the background of such compilations. Typical of the great period of punk and new wave, not only in Great Britain, compilations of previously unreleased recordings of new, rather young and unestablished artists became veritable launching pads for talents, ideas, hits, cults, stars... Thus, it was forever established that a compilation album does not it must be just a repackaging of old/known, proven successful material, another industrial husband from which the record companies skim the cream, while the authors, performers and audience are satisfied remains.
COMPILATIONS: This, of course, also resonated with us, at that time in Yugoslavia. Packages arrangement (1980, Jugoton - three bands with several tracks each) made a local revolution, and the mission continued ARA - Artistic working action (1981, Jugoton - ten bands with two tracks each), which the creators Morning... stand out as a role model. From the fateful nineties, she is the most similar to them Radio Utopia 1989-1994. (1994, Radio B92), not to list less significant releases. However, after 2000, this book belongs to only a few letters, territorially limited in advance: Belgrade Leopardov recovered (2001, Belgrade – Irfan Muertes, Darko Džambasov, Zoran Kiza Radović, Jarboli...) and Subotica Sever-northwest 2: In demand night deco (2006, Fokus – Layko Felix, Robert Tilly, Pioneer 10, Neverhood… cont Sever-of the northwest from the end of the previous decade). Mainstream homegrown record labels have played it safe by putting together predictable selections of pop/rock acts already selling on their label, as sensible as Metropolis or as wild as City. The stylistic/publishing isolated albums of the long series did not contribute much to the overall picture either Belgrade Cofee Shop (B92) whose Fully booked. 5 i 6 electronic-elitist, but fruitlessly sliding further and further down the blind track of projects, concepts, house-hermetic... everything that was (in)suffocating much livelier domestic pop/rock.
In the meantime, we have degenerated to the point where the best, true rock and roll bands live out their youth without representative albums, or even without albums at all; from KZU/Kzna za ushi, through Black Lilyhip to Popecitelje, refusing the humiliations of pop music inevitably means remaining in the category of samizdat and the margins, working for posthumous recognition in an already necrophilic (non)culture. At the same time, the former trivialization of the term "demo" (group, recording, scene...) has devalued the entire glossary, so every now and then even newer young fools talk about their "tours" during which they sleep under their parents' roof every night anyway, about "singles" that do not exist, etc. And too often someone strangles us again with a story about restoring local rock and roll, draining hope from any detail, and so little has actually been done. How then can a normal person not be enamored of ordinary, everyday songs and bands that are advertised to be promoted by club performances?
POPBOX: Music website popbox.on, created at the end of 2004, is already the leading site of its kind hosted in Serbia and in the Serbian language in terms of quality, breadth of offer (pop culture, but also diverse sections, interactivity, etc.) and attendance. Based on the digitized and still freely available magazine archives Jukebox i Rhythm, modern, live sections of the website were developed, and since last July, the section "Scene", where recordings and data of young, talented bands without record releases, so to speak, are completely unknown to the mainstream media and audience. On the other hand, the show "Pop Depression", from six years ago on Radio Politica, and from three years ago on DJ Radio 94,9 (formerly the II program of Studio B), has since expanded into a concert agency. pop depression.on, last September with the shutdown of 94,9, it was left without its parent radio station, but it partially preserved the memory of one of the finer stations on the Belgrade airwaves with this compilation. Part of the program's authors is now working at Studio B, and the selection of tracks for the album Tomorrow will to change sve? - Nova Serbian scene it was made by Svetlana Đolović (popbox) and Ivan Lončarević (pop depression), and the state PGP RTS still published that section of the scene. At http: //www.popbox.on/tomorrow you will find all the information.
INTOXICATED POP: In a low-budget, but modern floral cover by Nebojša Petrović, comes light, refreshing and sometimes intoxicating pop. About half of the album is filled with drinkable, melodic, bright songs vital for conquering radio waves and a wider young audience. The compilation starts with a miniature of Mint (Pančevo), who already works for the London label Cosmic Sounds of Željko Kerleta, and continues with Mint's fellow citizens Endorphin with deset thousands apologies, and the Subotic Pionir 10, which is the only one here that has two tracks, Le Mon i Da da da. The verse from the latter was taken as the title of the entire compilation, and it was this song that encouraged the young veteran Lončarević to undertake this venture.
Although I have never been a fan of our young man who writes in English, I approve of it either when the purpose is to enter foreign markets and/or when it is performed convincingly enough, and thus reduced BG-duet Ika with Bubble and the surprisingly stylish MSO/Mothership Orchestra from Požega move the ramp with ease. Then she kissed Him MSO was the first of these 17 to appear on the respective top-lists of the Belgrade airwaves and thus started a breakthrough. An even bigger surprise, quite pleasant, is Nežni Dalibor (Vranje) and theirs Significant an event. What I want to tell you about this whole story may fit into the following question: I've been in Vranje often on business for several years, I spend days and evenings there, I know journalists, radio and marketing people, people from Vranje who live in Belgrade... and no one he never even mentioned Dalibor to me, probably they themselves didn't know about that band; how is that possible in a town that size?
But that would not be all Ove season cheerful(ji) tones (to use the name of the Novi Sad band from a quarter of a century ago, when there is no longer any on this compilation), and that everyone lined up to reach Eva Braun, the Horkeškart (BG) art collective through Each ti Malter successfully demonstrates how the style is realized consistently and musically effectively, then Shiroko's fellow citizens shudder, and the promising Repetitor really shakes Ja. The metalism of Subotica's Neverhood and the hardness of Pancevo's Stuka are perceived more as stylistic democracy, which I am much more interested in. Young man Graph (BG) and Backwards of Becej Superstudio, healthy pop that I see a purpose and a future for. And probably the most intriguing in this whole bouquet is the unusual trio Goribor from mining self-buried Bor, another one of the (evil)-ghost towns of Serbia: already alone I hear bluz the weft for a cult is enough, as is the fact that this band has already released three albums in Croatia on the old independent label "Slušaj najglasnije" by Zdenko Franjić, who was also marginalized on samizdat; I hear bluz is third in line, I will home (2006). Moreover, Goribor, completely unknown in Serbia until the other day, performs at prestigious Croatian rock festivals (Discover African & Music, Pula), has a fan club in Osijek and singer/songwriter Aleksandar Stojković receives praise. By the way, even though they amputated the standard rhythm section and introduced computers and electronic effects, don't be confused when they tell you about Goribor that they are trip-hop-blues or whatever. The important thing is that they are excellent.
As is the order for such compilations, i Tomorrow... also promotes a series of new studios, not techno-brilliant, but sometimes unusual places where music is created. Also, it is noticeable that among the performers on this album - even without Horkeškart's choir - there is an increased number of girls, not only singers like Ivana Smolović/Ika, Ana Marinković/Shiroko, Ana Janković/Zoe Kidah, and keyboardist/singer (Daniela Mamužić/Pionir 10), but also the rhythm section of Repetitor, Ana-Marija Cupin (bass) and Milena Milutinović (drums).
The purpose of such releases is not only to inject fresh blood into the failing scene, but also to better connect bands, publishers, media, organizers of performances... and ultimately for the benefit of the audience. Another opportunity for local pop/rock and for everyone who cares.
Creators of the compilation Tomorrow will to change sve? - Nova Serbian scene (2007, PGP RTS) also used an original promotional move, asking a number of famous people - not only musicians - to write something about these performers and their tracks. So on the home page of Popbox, in addition to short biographies of the bands and audio ads of those songs, you can read what the writers Oto Oltvanji and Zvonko Karanović think about this (respectively, about Pionir 10 and MSO), the writer and guitarist of Presing Vladimir Marković Kraka about Goribor, Koja about Repetitor, Goran Vasović/Eva Braun about Nežna Dalibor, Marcelo about Horkeškart, Vlada Divljan about Pionir 10, and also screenwriter Dimitrije Vojnov, comic artist Aleksandar Zograf, Alek from Eyesburn, Lada from Bambi Molesters, Daniel Kovač from Jarbol, Saša Furunović from Popečitelj, Kole from Veliki Prezir, Relja Bobić from Belgradeyard Sound System...
DOB/Dom omladine Beograd in addition to its ongoing lively activities - serial concerts Battalia à XNUMX for new hip-hop forces, even outdated-metal Hit weeks Radio Belgrade 202 - in cooperation with Popbox has just started the program Scene live! - The best od nine Serbian scenes, with which the bands from the compilation will be presented in concert Tomorrow will to change sve? and a number of others.
