Danijela Sinani, dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, was attacked from behind by a man, when he hit him in the back of the head and pushed him, and then ran away. The attack took place not far from the Faculty of Philosophy, in Čika Ljubina Street, and an eyewitness told Nova.rs that the attacker also stole his wallet. The police arrested the perpetrator, and colleagues organized a support rally.
Teacher Aleksandar Baucal he says for N1 that he does not have reliable information, but as far as he knows, Sinani had no injuries that would require him to stay in a medical facility, and that he is currently at the police station reporting this case.
"The most important thing is that he is physically well enough at the moment. The worst thing is that something happened that is unacceptable, regardless of the election campaign, regardless of the understandable desire of the ruling party to stay in power," Baucal said.
As he says, if the current government really believes that it is supported by the majority of the people of Serbia, then there is no need to attack political dissenters.
"Especially in a cowardly way, from behind, with some labels, such as 'blockaders', which all point us to a negative side of the campaign being conducted in the tabloids, where that label 'blockader' has now become a target on the heads of a large number of people," explains Baucal. "We appeal to the state to use its institutions in order to establish the facts. We have the prosecutor's office, we have other institutions that should work in the interests of the citizens. And those institutions should already tonight, tomorrow morning at the latest, inform us citizens of what happened."
Students of this faculty wrote that the normalization of violence must be prevented.
"The deans, professors, students and the rest of the academic community are not just "blockers" and cannot identify with all the derogatory and insulting labels that the regime and their supporters have attributed to them in the last almost two years," they wrote.
Đokić: "It is not only the perpetrator who is guilty, but also those who carried out this kind of narrative"
As Vladan Đokić, rector of the University of Belgrade, told the Mašina portal, today's attack on Sinani is a continuation of what has been happening for months - and that is the narrative that representatives of the government and their sympathizers are telling the academic community.
"That is, towards the students and professors who are targeting and calling them enemies of the state. And this is the result of such a narrative. The perpetrator is not the only one to blame for this, but those who implemented this narrative are also to blame," said Đokić.
At this moment, the session of the extended rector's collegium regarding the attack on Sinani is also taking place, and their announcement regarding this case is also expected.
