How academician Nikola Hajdin got involved in the viral clinch between Žaklina Tatalović and Dragan J. Vučićević, what does that say about Serbia and, above all, what is he still somewhat famous for
Journalist N1 television Zaklina Tatalovic she said that the academician Nikola Hejdin is her grandfather. His son, Dr. Rade Hajdin, that this is not true. Regime tabloids used the whole story to use a mega-campaign aimed at discrediting the "blockade" journalist, for the umpteenth time to settle accounts with "Šolakov" to the media, which, by the way, are no longer that.
This rather insignificant story has gone viral on social media. Some benefit of this is that a large number of digital fog riders at least found out that there was an academic Nikola Hejdin out there who was doing some kind of bridges. The sad thing about all this is that neither the active protagonists of this theater of absurd times, nor the passive consumers of tabloids and internet fights showed any interest in the character and work of Nikola Hajdin, the former president of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, born in 1923 in Vrbovsko, Croatia, who died in 2019 in Belgrade.
"time" announced in 2003, when he became the head of SANU (he was elected president three times). a short biography of Nikola Hajdin, so now we're retelling it in an attempt to, at least for a moment, get him out of the story of whose grandfather he is or isn't.
He was born in 1923 in Vrbovsko in Gorski Kotar and he knew his roots well: it seems that he knew every hamlet and every family, the etymology of the name. The Hajdins come from the village of Hajdine. The new president of SANU spent a happy childhood in Gorski Kotar, with his mother Božica, father Manojlo and brother Georgi, until the war in 1941, when the family came to Belgrade. He graduated from Second Male.
After demobilization, he was a participant of NOB, enrolled in the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade. Even as an assistant, he started constructing bridges. He received his doctorate in 1954 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, and in 1959 he received the October Award.
At the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, he taught Theory of Constructions, Theory of Plasticity and Nonlinear Elasticity. He also taught at other faculties in the country. He was a professor at the famous Zurich school ETN (Federal Higher Technical School), and he gave lectures and seminars all over the world.
Professor Haydin was also a polyglot. He taught many generations of students. His son Rade also enrolled in construction, majoring in construction, at the University of Belgrade, but his father sent him out into the world to get his doctorate. Rade Hajdin, "Vreme" wrote in 2003, is a distinguished professor University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Professor Hajdin is the world-renowned author of a large number of constructions, among which large cable-stayed bridges occupy a special place. In the 1960s, this was revolutionary technology.
His most famous projects are the Belgrade Railway Bridge over the Sava, the largest bridge on the entire Danube "Sloboda" in Novi Sad, the bridge over the Vistula in Plock, Poland. He designed bridges in Switzerland, Slovenia, Canada, Russia, India. Maybe that's why some called him a World Cup winner.

His main focus was construction theory. He devoted himself to that field as a student at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Our largest arch dams Grančarevo, Mratinje and Glažnja were analyzed using the methods he published in 1954. He has about 200 publications and books, approximately half of which were published abroad.
Nikola Hajdin is, among other things, the recipient of the October Award (1959), the October Award of Novi Sad (1981), the Avnoj (1987), the first award for the bridge project over the Vistula River in Plock, Poland (1996), the Order of Labor with a Golden Wreath (1979), the Order of Merit for the People with a Golden Wreath (1987), an honorary doctor of the National Technical University in Athens (2000), the Plaque of St. George of the City of Kragujevac (2011).
He was a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, an honorary member of the Greek National Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, a member of the Swiss Association for Steel Structures, an honorary doctor of the National Technical University of Athens and an honorary member of the Yugoslav Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
He was a regular member of SANU since 1976.
He said that he loved skiing the most in his life, he started when he was six years old, and he skied until he was eight years old.
He was unusually fond of the theater, especially the opera. As a student, and later, he was constantly "hanging" on the third gallery.
He read both fiction and the daily and weekly press: "I just can't get away from it without reading what's being written, and there's a lot being written," he used to say.
He didn't complain about not having free time. To him, people who "never have time" were "suspicious". He used to say that if you do the work you are talented at, everything will come.
