General Manager Elektroprivrede Srbije (EPS) Dušan Živković stated at the Belgrade Energy Forum that the energy collapse in Europe showed the necessity of large storage facilities that should support growing quantities electricity from renewable sources.
"In this sense, the two pumped power plants RHE Bistrica and Đerdap 3 would create conditions for not only Serbia, but also the region to feel more energy secure," said Živković today, as announced by EPS.
He said that last year's collapse and the recent collapse in one part of Europe imposed energy security and sovereignty as a key topic and that this is a confirmation of the determination of the EPS to implement the energy transition and its goals, but in such a way that it does not at any moment call into question the energy security and supply of citizens and the economy.
When asked whether nuclear energy would be a solution for basic energy in the future for Serbia, Živković reminded that the moratorium was abolished by the Law on Energy and that a study on the use of nuclear energy is underway.
"Countries that have nuclear power plants achieve a high level of energy security and have a high-quality energy mix that enables the economy to be competitive, which is extremely important," stated Živković.
