He didn't mention it, but let's add that modesty is not always a virtue, so in the fall, he sang three times, and for nothing, and in three different places, in Čačak, Niš and Valjevo, where his people became mayors of municipalities. In the local elections at the end of 1996, Velja achieved the most convincing victory in Serbia, again becoming a representative of the republic. They won because, as he said, they organized the party as a company, it was known who was doing what. He becomes the president of the municipality, he promises that only top positions belong to politicians, the rest to non-party figures. It reduces the price of compensation for construction land, communal services, constantly available to citizens, one day it distributes the entire salary to those who complained about penury. He immediately comes out with the results, what was planned for four years, Velja fulfills in a year, he often refers to the public, boiler houses, schools, kindergartens, kilometers of asphalt, kilometers of macadam, thousands of square meters of new business space... In the municipality, Jeleni Petrović behaves like a host. , the editor of the local newspaper brought from Kraljevo, dissatisfied with the fact that she published the statement of the socialists who attacked him, announces that she can go where she came from.

In the beginning, he was constantly moving, he didn't know people, entered a house, "the house was alone", climbed into the attic and waited. They started to wrap the pilot, before dawn Velja saw people rushing from everywhere, in bulletproof vests, with rifles, with ammunition, he went to get down from the attic, the ladder broke, he injured his back and ankle. By chance, a vehicle came by, called the driver, and pulled him out of the hoop. He makes a log in the hay, there the deer feel him, they want to tear off his leg, then he recovers and retreats deeper into the forest. Another problem, the mushrooms started, at dawn, a forest full of peasants, he doesn't know where to go. He found a cave, a hundred people to stop, he hid there. But, people find out that it is there, they carry food all day long, one carries a thermos with coffee, the other a bottle of water, a box of sugar, a pot of food, he tells them: "Aman people, don't carry it in a pot, they will follow you", then they carried in a basket, as if looking for mushrooms...
Be that as it may, Velja returned to Čačak, right to the first meeting of the Alliance for Change, and continued his fight for Serbia. In the 2000 elections, he again won convincingly in Čačak. Although the position of vice-president follows him, he does not join Đinđić's government. He is still involved in Čačak: When someone asks me, Ilić, what have you done, I say, in five years, 270 km of asphalt roads, brought gas, built a heating plant, water supply, suburban settlements, sewage network, 6500 small and medium-sized enterprises, that's the indicators that I handle..." From that position, he begins to show greater ambitions: "The people don't want elaborates, projects, graphs, they want to be told - we did this and that, we built that company, employed so many people. These programs and projects that I have implemented in Čačak for years, I can apply at the level of the whole of Serbia, here we need to bang on the table, bring order..." As he did not get a chance, he continued to deal with Čačak, helping the people, saving a boy who climbed a 50-meter crane in the center of Čačak, and he didn't want to come down until Velja came to pick him up: "He climbed up, all the way to the end, his muscle snapped, that one crossbar snapped, I flew I went down and held on, managed to take it off and put it back..."
RE-ENGINEERING: Other, temporally, closer successes. He also started to build a scientific career. At the Technical Faculty, he held a lecture by invitation, something about the influence of intellectual potential on the development of the economy. At the end of March, he is due to get his master's degree, in a committee of three members, among them the dean of the faculty, Dr. Jeroslav Živanić, and Dr. Ljubiša Papić, both members of Nova Serbia.
It is known that Veljina Nova Srbija, in coalition with SPO, entered the republican assembly with nine deputies. It is also known that he became the minister of the Ministry that followed him, the largest, for capital investments. He immediately formed a team, and immediately went to work. He didn't forget his Čačak either, even though he now has older and bigger responsibilities. In his Atenica, he paved and lit everything, and finished his ethnic house in the Šumadija style, so that he would have a place to receive Bogoljub Karić, with whom he achieves extraordinary cooperation in local assemblies and everywhere else. And in the municipality of Čačak, everything is regular, headed by his Velimir Stanojević, the president of the Assembly, his brother Vojislav, who was pulled out of retirement to be the director of the Elementary School "Sveti Sava", right in Atenica.
