The SNS activist spoke to BIRN about Ćaciland, the March 15 protest and the "sound cannon". His statements coincide with what "Vreme" established in its research "Hook"
On the eve of the big student protest on March 15, 2025 in Belgrade, Momčilo Marjanović, progressive who spoke to BIRN, he spent more than two weeks in Pioneer Park, translating a group of guys he had gathered. For that, he says, he received 500 euros a day, and the people he led received 200 euros each.
On the day of the protest, he was in the front lines. His statement about the events of that time overlaps with researching "Hook" which "Vreme" published after the protest in which it tried to find out what happened during the delivery of mail to the victims of the fall of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad in Kralja Milana Street and whether the state used sound weapons.
The Black Hoods That Followed the "Hook"
Marjanović, he says, was a leader in Ćaciland.
"Otherwise, I was always in the first row with the boys. And so around the whole of Ćaciland. Each one had his superior who led a group of people for that part, for that space, for that width of the fence, as much as the space already occupies," he says, describing the boys he led as "athletic and brave", but with "those attitudes".
His group had sprays, bats and phantoms - all of which were waiting for them in a tent in the park.
"Considering what kind of characters were inside, the atmosphere was ok... Alcohol was used, it wasn't tense, because of the strain of people it wasn't tense, some people even wished for trouble to happen," he describes.
Marjanović mentioned that on March 15, persons who, he says, were hired by SNS, inserted themselves among citizens and students who were protesting in order to cause violent incidents.
"Vreme" also wrote about the black hoods. They started a series of incidents around Pioneer Park. They repeatedly attacked Ćaciland, but in fact they only acted in such a way as to cause incidents and disputes among people on the street. They didn't say who they were and why they were there, they didn't talk to the participants of the student protest or the journalists.
Marjanović also says that the police did not react, which "Vreme" also wrote about. When asked how all this was possible in front of a large number of policemen, he explains that the police "protected them and were in coordination with people from Ćaciland".
It can be concluded from his words that the police officers knew what was going to happen.
"I was present when a policeman said: 'Make sure you protect your ears in the next fifteen minutes,'" says Marjanović in an interview with BIRN. That policeman was in command of the others, he had some rank.
When, during the delivery of the mail down Kralja Milan street, a sound rumbled through complete silence, causing thousands of people in disbelief to jump to the side and run away, Marjanović says that nothing was heard in the part of the park where he was.
"I didn't hear anything, we were further away from that part where the crowd dispersed. But they would hardly have heard, because, as far as I know, it was directed," says the former SNS activist.
"Vreme" also wrote about the direction when it determined which way the sound or roar was moving, which coincides with Marjanović's claims, because that path did not include Ćaciland.
