Anđelković said that the post office in Merdar is equipped to work "not two or three days a week like before, but six days", in order to provide the opportunity for people from Kosovo to complete their work there, "primarily receiving pensions and receiving and sending letters".
In the north of Kosovo, all post offices are blocked
"In the north of Kosovo, they blocked all our post offices. Our task is to manage and find a way so that our citizens in Kosovo and Metohija are not harmed", said Anđelković, and that the post office in Merdar was equipped precisely with the aim of being, as he said, "an exchange office and an outpost for everything that the post office can provide".
"It is certainly a burden for people to come from Gračanica, Laplje Selo or some other place to collect their pension here and everything else, but as long as Kurti's regime is the way it is, and those who stand behind him do not convince him that with this kind of action against the Serbian people must stop, we will manage in the way that is possible", he pointed out.
Support from Vučić
The managers of nine post offices in the North of Kosovo came to the meeting with Anđelković, who "were brought in due to the fact that these post offices were working until yesterday."
The acting director conveyed to them the support of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the message "that Serbia will stand up for its people and will not give in to Kurti's terrorist actions."
Director of the "Kosovo and Metohija" Working Unit, Ivan Milojević, said that nine of them stopped "to wait for Kurti's special forces who came to close the post office".
He said that they were called to give statements and that they would be charged "according to that law of theirs for some offense".
"We do not see that we have transgressed anything in our conscientious and responsible work," said Milojević.
He said that a post office like this one in Merdar will also be opened in Končulje (near Bujanovac) in order to overcome this difficult period as best as possible, especially "for the most vulnerable categories of the population such as recipients of care and assistance and pensions".
Worked "illegally"?
The manager of the Kosovska Mitrovica post office, Momčilo Stefanović, said "that special forces, under arms and in full military gear, broke into that post office on Monday, August 5, and demanded that the workers stop working", that they had "information from citizens that we were working illegally". .
"We asked them to show us the warrant on the basis of which they entered, but they did not show it to us," said Stefanović, adding that the post office workers hope to continue working with the help of the Serbian state.
"Pristina's actions violated people's basic rights"
The assistant director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Igor Popović said that the actions of Pristina violated people's basic right to communication and written correspondence, which is stipulated in Article 8 of the EU Convention on Human Rights.
He said that "even during the Second World War, prisoners had the right to written correspondence and postal services", and that Pristina is trying to "make a ghetto out of the Serbian environment".
The office will provide all possible legal assistance to postal workers who are threatened by the unilateral actions of Pristina and its police and judiciary.
What happened?
In the synchronous action of Kosovo authorities, members of the Kosovo Police they simultaneously entered all nine facilities of the Post of Serbia in the North of Kosovo based on the request of the Regulatory Body for Electronic and Postal Communications (ARKEP) and closed them. Three post offices in Kosovska Mitrovica, two in the municipality of Zvečan, one in Zubin Potok and three in the municipality of Leposavić were sealed.
The workers who found themselves in the facilities were allowed to take out their personal belongings, while the KP confiscated the documents of the Post of Serbia. It is not known whether money was seized this time, as was done less than three months ago when all financial institutions in Serbia were closed in a similar action.
Srpska lista, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia harshly accuse Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti of violating the Brussels Agreement, but also of persecuting Serbs.
Apart from verbal condemnations, there was no resistance to this action by the Kosovo police.
