Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said at the COP 28 summit in Dubai that Serbia has decided to create a new strategy to contribute to the fight against climate change and that it is part of the strategy until 2050. broadcast by RTS.
"Today I stand before you not only as a representative of the Republic of Serbia, but also as a citizen of the world who advocates general well-being." There are noticeable climate changes within the borders of the Republic of Serbia, our country is struggling with high average temperatures, above the global average, because the average temperatures in Serbia are already above 1,8 degrees Celsius," said Vučić.
At the same time, as the President of Serbia says, projections say that, if this continues, there will be an increase of as much as five degrees Celsius by the end of the century.
Therefore, this year is the hottest not only in the world but also in our country. July, August, September, October were the warmest months. We had tropical nights in October, which was unheard of in Serbia. "Because of such a high temperature in October, we are still counting the damage that the drought caused to our economy last year, the storms also caused great damage in our cities," said Vučić.
The President of Serbia says that the whole world must be united in the fight against climate change and must act immediately.
"We will continue to contribute to the global fight against climate change by improving our national mitigation system with the support of our partners." We need a quick response to this threat and the Government of Serbia is firmly committed to that goal. In June of this year, we adopted a strategy on low gas emissions. Our ambition is to achieve the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, which is the basis for achieving the vision by 2050," said Vučić.
The President of Serbia said that our country aspires to become a society with low carbon dioxide emissions and a competitive economy that will provide citizens with new green jobs and a society that is resistant to climate change.
