More than a thousand people were evacuated from settlements along the left bank of the Dnieper, after water poured through the broken Nova Kahovka dam and submerged 80 settlements in the Kherson region. The attack on the dam was condemned by the European Union, NATO and the USA. They call Moscow to account. Finland expels nine Russian diplomats
"We are still expecting the peak of the floods, and we have already evacuated about 1.000 people and we have about 50 buses running between the affected villages and Kherson, where we have prepared four places for evacuation," he said.
The dam supplies water to part of the agricultural land of southern Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula, which is under Russian administration.
The mayor, appointed by Russia, said the water level in the city had risen to over 11 meters and that some residents had been taken to hospital.
The Russian administration of the Kherson region of Ukraine announced that it is preparing to evacuate three districts - Nova Kakhovka, Golo Pristan and Oleshki. The water level in that part of the Dnieper River has already risen by more than a meter.

The consequence of the collapse of the Djibouti dam is that the water level in the reservoir near the largest European nuclear power plant, Zaporozhye, which serves to cool the reactor and fuel, is dropping at a rate of 5 centimeters per hour. If the flow of cooling water were to stop, there would be a meltdown of the reactor and a nuclear disaster
