The organization "Belgrade on the move" called on the authorities to permanently protect tram line number two as a cultural asset of Belgrade, instead of abolishing it
The "dvojka" tram is not just a traffic line - it is a city icon, a moving postcard of Belgrade, according to the "Belgrade on the Move" Organization.
They appealed, regarding the news about the cancellation of this line, that the unique route by which the "double" goes around the city center makes it invaluable cultural resource. According to them, line number two is a counterpart to the famous tram 28 u Lisbon, which has become an indispensable point for tourists and part of the identity of the Portuguese capital.
"Instead of abolishing, the 'dvoka' should be improved - through renovated trams, guides, interactive tours and the promotion of Belgrade's cultural heritage", stated Belgrade in Movement, adding that "removing the 'dvoka' erases the memory of the city as it was and as it could become again - accessible, alive and close to people".
"Belgrade on the Move" said that Belgrade must not give up its symbols, but, on the contrary, "should protect them and turn them into an advantage."
