Wallet Black Friday in Novi Sad it amounts to fourteen dead and zero resignations.
The prosecution, with a lot of media fanfare, "in the capacity of citizens" listens to the whole chain of possible responsible giving the impression that no one will be spared. However, the prosecution deals with criminal, not political, responsibility anyway.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, on Friday, a few hours after the fatal fall of the canopy, expressly requested criminal, but also political responsibility.
The authorities, however, say that the "institutions should be allowed to do their work" and it seems that the moment for effective resignations has passed - for moral reasons or political calculation, all the same.
Vucevic from China: About monsters and a cold head
Prime Minister Milos Vucevic in the meantime, he went to China, where he and the Serbian delegation will attend the import fair in Shanghai, which starts on November 5, and have a meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.
From there, he said that there is no doubt that criminal and political responsibility should be determined for the tragedy in Novi Sad, but that it should be done in a peaceful and responsible manner.
And he also talked about monsters: "It is scandalous that someone calls this murder." You know what a monster you have to be to say that someone killed those people. Well, you must be a serious monster for someone to think that someone did something to kill some people"
As for political responsibility, it must exist, Vučević said, and that he spoke with the President of Serbia and that he will make that decision with a cool head, rationally, and not "carried by tweets and posts on social networks".
Brnabić: There will be no protected persons, just like the previous 10 years
President of the Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic she stated on Sunday that nwill be protected, but that the institutions must be allowed to do their work and added that the problem is obviously in the profession.
"At the moment, we have more than 40 people who have been questioned. "The investigation continues and I expect all institutions to do their job and to hold those responsible accountable," said Brnabić.
She also said that at this moment "the most important thing is that everyone does their job", and "there will be no protected people, we have shown that in the previous 10 years, but you have to let the institutions do their job." What the opposition is doing, which didn't even wait for the day of mourning to be declared, and already started thinking of how to politically abuse this tragedy, is scandalous."
According to her, it is scandalous that they did not "respect" a single day of mourning.
"They immediately started to organize the most hideous performances, in sight." throwing red paint to the building of the Government of Serbia. It's senseless and humanly terrible," said Brnabić.
No one tries to tempt Vučić
"Vučić, in front of the whole of Serbia, very clearly called for political responsibility and nothing happens on the second day," says political scientist Dejan Bursać.
"One would think that Vučić would be listened to first by the people from SNS, then by the coalition partners. But they don't listen to him. This indicates that Vučić's performance was either a performance for the public or that he does not have absolute control, so people from the system are now bargaining and calculating," Bursać told "Vreme".
Who is in the chain of responsibility?
In the regime media, the thesis is being pushed that the Novi Sad Institute for the Protection of Monuments allegedly requested that the canopy not be touched by the reconstruction of the station, which the Institute denied.
As well as the thesis that the station was supposedly built poorly in the sixties, so the canopy fell right now, right after a series of reconstructions which, as experts suspect, disturbed the statics.
In the chain of responsibility - which is not the same as guilt - there are certainly the Infrastructure of Railways of Serbia as the contractor, the CIP Institute as the designer, Chinese companies as contractors, the Ministry of Construction as the supervisor of the entire sector.
When asked if running away from resignations as a moral act reminds him of the situation after the mass murders in May last year, when only the former Minister of Education Branko Ružić resigned and thus jumped out of the system, Bursać says that the matter is actually even more obvious now:
"Then we had armed maniacs who are the direct culprits," he says. "Here, it is clear that the culprit is political corruption in public works." That is Vučić's problem, which is climbing towards the top of the pyramid, that is, him, if it is not cut at lower levels."
If there are no resignations, it will strengthen the old thesis that no one is let down in the SNS system, as if the whole system would collapse if one brick were removed.
