After the hearing in the Patriarchate, theologian Blagoje Pantelić claims that he was not clearly informed of what exactly he was charged with. His request for a lawyer to attend the proceedings was rejected, and the judges, he says, "just read the questions." The SPC has already banned him from communion, and the most severe punishment could be expulsion from the church
Theologian Blagoje Pantelic expressed the hope that the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch of Porphyry will not order the indictment against him, after listening to the recording of today's hearing before the church court.
After the hearing in the Patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Pantelić stated that he signed the minutes of the hearing, which are imprecise and concise, but that there is an audio recording.
According to Pantelić, the questions already contained an indictment.
If there is an indictment, I will analyze it with my ecclesiastical legal team and respond, Pantelić said.
"At the beginning, I asked for the proceedings to be conducted in accordance with the procedures and for the bishop to bring me the authorization of Patriarch Porfiri, which he did, and for the disputed decision of the Great Ecclesiastical Court to be passed on the transfer from one diocese to another," Pantelić told reporters, adding that his home diocese is Vranj, and that he was transferred to the Belgrade-Karlovica archdiocese so that he could be tried there.
Pantelić stated that the people who interrogated him said that they were there "just to read the questions".
"Among them was the patriarch's vicar, Bishop Tikhon," said Pantelić.
He said that he was not specifically told what he was charged with and that he insisted that he had always acted in accordance with the church's tradition.
Pantelić stated that his lawyer Boži Prelević was not allowed to attend the hearing, although they invoked two canons that provide for the existence of a lawyer.
The most severe punishment for Pantelić can be exclusion from the church community, and now he is forbidden to receive communion.
