Activists Marija Vasić, Lado Jovović, Mladen Cvijetić, Srđan Đurić, Davor Stefanović and Lazar Dinić they were arrested on March 14 on suspicion of having committed "the criminal act of preparing an attack on the constitutional system."
Their arrest came only a day after an audio recording of their informal meeting, which took place at PSG's premises, was played on several national television channels.
Those arrested were ordered to be detained for up to 30 days, and their lawyers filed an appeal against this decision, although they were not given access to the case files, writes the "Danas" portal. The appeal was rejected.
They were given access only after two weeks. One part of those files is classified as "top secret", so the lawyers of those arrested cannot speak publicly about their contents.
What does the Law say?
According to the Data Secrecy Act, the designation "strictly confidential" is determined in order to prevent serious damage to the interests of the Republic of Serbia.
And the closer criteria for determining the degree of secrecy "state secret" and "strictly confidential" are determined by the Government, with the previously obtained opinion of the National Security Council.
What does the arrested person's lawyer say?
Aleksandar Petrović, the lawyer of the arrested Marija Vasić, told "Danas" that because part of the files were classified, he and his colleagues defending the other suspects were prevented from revealing to the public what was in those files.
"When we were finally allowed to see it, it turned out that one part of the file was marked as strictly confidential, which effectively prevented us from making a public statement about it. We will continue our legal fight, because we stand by what we have been saying all along since that edited video was broadcast on national frequencies, which is that our defendants have not committed any criminal offense and that these people must be released from custody immediately," says the lawyer.
He adds that the defense attorneys of the other defendants and he will demand that all illegal evidence be removed from the file in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
