The president of the Union of Serbs from the region, Miodrag Linta, asked Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić on Wednesday to send the strongest protest to his Croatian colleague Gordan Grlić Radman for the "unacceptable arrest" and 15-day prison sentence imposed on Krajina Serb Nemanja Berić for singing Krajina songs. songs.
Some Croatian media announced that the lawyer was arrested for a video with singer Baj Mali Knindža.
Linta asked Đurić that a representative of the Serbian Embassy in Zagreb visit Berić (47) in the prison in Šibenik in order to make sure of the conditions in the prison, his treatment and to help him in every way, because, according to Berić, he is a citizen of Serbia. , announced the Association of Serbs from the region.
"Ethnically motivated verdicts"
Linta adds that the Croatian police arrested lawyer Nemanja Berić on Saturday at the Bajakovo border crossing because he recorded himself singing the Krajina songs "Do Dinare niđe ne stajem" and "Mala kuća" and "Mala kuća" while driving a car. the magistrate in Šibenik sentenced him to a "scandalous" 15 days in prison.
He adds that Berić lives in Belgrade, and was arrested when returning to Serbia after staying in his native village of Uzdolje near Knin.
Linta emphasizes that the verdict handed down by the Municipal Court in Šibenik is another one of many ethnically motivated and deeply unjust verdicts passed with the aim of scaring the Krajina Serbs into giving up their roots and their Krajina origin.
"That means, among other things, that they are not allowed to sing native and Krajina songs in public because they are allegedly disrupting public order and peace," said Linta.
Linta calls on the competent authorities in Serbia to start a conversation with Croatia on the subject of the arrest and persecution of Krajina Serbs for singing songs or publishing photos with Krajina or patriotic content.
Went to visit his grandmother, ended up in prison
Serbian singer Rajko Lalić was also arrested this summer for singing Krajina songs, followed by Davor Oluić, a performer of patriotic songs.
Last year, the Croatian authorities arrested 32-year-old Serb Velibor Tripković because of the content published on his private Facebook page, which also included Serbian songs from Krajina. He was also sentenced to 15 days in prison under an emergency procedure.
Tripković, who has citizenship of both Serbia and Croatia, and lives in Serbia, was arrested at the Bajakovo crossing when he and his girlfriend went to visit his grandmother in Knin, where he went several times a year.
His lawyer then explained that he was arrested on the basis of the "famous" article five" of the Law on Offenses against Public Order and Peace, according to which "whoever in a public place performs, reproduces songs, compositions and texts or wears or displays symbols , texts, pictures, drawings disrupt public order and peace, be fined from 700 to 4.000 euros or imprisoned for up to 30 days.
Violation of human rights of Krajina Serbs
Linta said that so far nine Serbs from the Knin area have been arrested and convicted for the same offense and posts on Facebook.
Seven of them were sentenced to prison sentences of 15 days, one to a suspended prison sentence and one to a fine of 1000 euros.
Linta concludes that this represents the grossest violation of the human rights of Krajina Serbs, that is, the right to freely express their national, cultural and religious identity.
