Rector of Belgrade University Vladan Djokic probably won't be found on Student list where part of the public already saw him in the number one position as a candidate for prime minister, several sources told Vreme.
Other sources claim that nothing has been resolved yet and that it is possible for the rector to return to the list. They state that there have been similar cases with some of the candidates before.
According to sources familiar with the developments in the Student Movement and others close to Đokić, a narrow majority of the faculty plenums voted to "vet" Đokić. In the end, among the 85 plenums, it was 43:40, with two more abstentions, in the vote that was held on Sunday (September 6) at a meeting in the Port of Belgrade.
Vetiran and Milo Lompar
Apart from Đokić, another 35 people dropped from the list, among them Professor Milo Lompar, former prosecutor Jasmina Paunović, Local Front activist Predrag Voštinić, MP Jelena Pavlović and some others.
It is difficult to conclude that these candidates were "vetted" by ideological criteria. To some interlocutors, it seems that those who have fallen out of favor are those who have passed the hot rabbit in the regime's tabloids.
The Informer and other Malten tabloids published live "events" from the plenum, but with the flourish that "blockades have broken" and the like. They also claimed that the students were allegedly being "pressured" to return Đokić to the list.
The movement remains united.
In second place on the draft list is allegedly the lawyer Sara el Sarag. "But the big question is whether she will now be the first on the list or someone else will be found," says one source.
There were some heated discussions in student chat groups, but, according to those in the know, everything calmed down in the night between Sunday and Monday.
"The student movement remains united and that's it," sources of "Vremen" say.
Đokić has been saying for months that his role will be determined by the students. "I said a long time ago that it would be an honor, pleasure and pride for me to be on the student list. I stand behind it even today. If the students feel that I can help, I will accept it. But I cannot say that since the list has not yet been finalized," he told "Vreme" in July.
The list will soon be available to citizens.
If the veto from Sunday is not overturned, there will still be familiar names on the student list. Let's say, sources say, former basketball player Dejan Bodiroga and professor Jovo Bakić stayed on it.
There is not much time left to clarify everything, if President Aleksandar Vučić really does call elections for October 25.
It can be assumed that the student movement will be among the first to take to the streets to collect signatures and among the first to hand over the list.
