After the meeting of environmental organizations held on Sunday, January 9 in Gornji Milanovac, it was decided to continue with the roadblocks until the Government withdraws the decree on the Republic Spatial Plan for Special Purposes and discloses to the public everything signed with Rio Tinto.
In the coordination of the "Ecological Uprising", one of the organizers of the road blockades at the end of last year, and the "Union of Ecological Organizations of Serbia" (SEOS), which continued the protests in the New Year, it was decided to radicalize the protests. The first step in realizing the agreement was a protest in front of the Serbian Government building on Wednesday, but there were not enough people to even block the sidewalk.
Traffic roadblocks have been announced for tomorrow at 13 p.m., and for the first time the "Trbušnica" border crossing towards Bosnia and Herzegovina will be blocked. The highway near the Sava Center in Belgrade, Užice, Preljina and Požega are also blocked on the map.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabić pointed out after the meeting of ecologists in Gornji Milanovac "that the state will respond if they block the border crossings" and that "she does not take that kind of arrogance seriously".
Savo Manojlović, a member of the "Go-change" movement, today presented a "legal solution" for the departure of Rio Tinto. He said that if the government cancels the spatial plan for the "Jadar" project, all legal bases for the business of this company will disappear, except "if there is no secret agreement". The movement submitted 290 signatures to the government for the petition "Rio Tinto, march from the Drina".
Manojlović added that a moratorium on lithium and boron mining should be introduced for a period of 20 years, and explained that the one-year moratorium mentioned by President Aleksandar Vučić does not solve anything, but only postpones the problem until after the elections.
The movement also states that, if the demands are not met, on January 20, they will start collecting 30 signatures to launch a popular initiative on the "Jadar" project before the parliament.
