Study at UNIRSM from Valjevo organized a protest in that city on Friday "A year without justice - Valjevo remember", and on the occasion of the anniversary police brutality over the citizens that happened on August 14, 2025. They reminded the authorities that for brutal violence no one answered.
The MUP announced that during the rally, 11 people were brought to the official premises of the Valjevo Police Department because of "committed violations under the Law on Arms and Ammunition and the Law on Identity Cards" and that a criminal complaint will be filed against one participant of the rally.
The gathering started at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Valjevska Gymnasium, and the departure was at 7:30 p.m. next to the police building to the stage set up at the intersection in Uzun Mirkova Street. The main program started an hour later, at 8 pm and lasted until 9 pm.
At the corner of Sinฤeliฤeva and Karaฤorฤeva in Valjevo, citizens mapped in red the places where cases of police brutality occurred.
Student Tamara Jeremiฤ, who was a participant in the protest on August 14, and whose father was also injured and whose workshop was demolished, SAID for N1 that for her one moment stands out the most from all the scenes on August 14 last year.
"I came out of the passage after being beaten and on the street I saw my friend Duลกan Radoviฤ being trampled by a policeman with his boot and crushing his head against the concrete and spitting on him," says the student.
The point of drawing the dots at the end of tonight's protest is to mark where the greatest brutality was and to "show in red that on August 14, the blood of the children of Valje and the people of Valje was spilled."
Student Nikolina stated that "the people of Valjev do not accept to live in a city where they are afraid of uniforms."
"We demand the responsibility of all thugs who misused their badge and uniform on August 14, 2025 and raised batons against the children of their own town. Valjevo is not silent! Valjevo remembers," she said.

Violence from thugs and police
The reason for the student protest in Valjevo is the anniversary of the great riots and police brutality against the people of Valjevo on August 14, when 67 people, mostly young people, were detained, many of whom were injured.
The violence actually started the day before, on August 13, with the demolition of the "Roman" cafe and the brutal injuring of the owner, his minor son and a customer.
Then masked thugs, in front of the police cordon, demolished the aforementioned bar and injured three people. The following night, on August 14, the police used excessive force against the citizens.

"Special attention of the public was attracted by a video showing a group of policemen surrounding a fifteen-year-old boy lying on the street. Such videos became one of the most important ways for the public to see what happened that night in Valjevo," the students said.
They added that part of the injured citizens decided to seek justice before the institutions, and that according to the legal team representing them, 27 people filed criminal charges against 28, as well as NN police officers, in October, due to suspicion of illegal behavior.
The students also reminded that the Government of Serbia announced on August 17 that it was necessary to determine responsibility for the incident in Valjevo, while at the same time violence against police officers was condemned.
In May 2026, the case was taken over by the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, which means that, almost a year after the event, the issue of responsibility is still before the institutions, the announcement stated.
11 people detained
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced that about 3.500 citizens were present at the "unannounced gathering" in Valjevo, and that a criminal complaint was filed against one participant.
"From 7:00 p.m. to 10:50 p.m., an unannounced public gathering was held in Valjevo, organized by students in Valjevo, under the name 'A year without justice - Valjevo remembers.'
According to reports, before and during the public gathering, 11 persons were brought to the official premises of the Valjevo Police Department, due to violations of the Law on Weapons and Ammunition and the Law on Identity Cards.

"Telescopic batons, knives, electric stun gun, spray doses of tear gas, masks to hide the face, protective masks, helmets and vests, as well as radio devices were found with the person," it was stated.
Also, during the public gathering, a participant in the DH protest attacked a citizen of NP with a telescopic baton
"After consultation with the on-duty VJT in Valjevo, a criminal complaint will be filed against the participant of the DH protest in regular proceedings for the committed criminal act of Violent behavior at a sports event or public gathering prescribed by Article 344a of the Criminal Code of Criminal Procedure," announced the MUP.
