In the local elections held in April last year in those four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija with a Serbian majority, Albanians were elected mayors. Serbs boycotted the elections.

Since then, Albanian mayors have been at the head of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, where Serbs make up 95 percent of the population.
